Thinking like Scientists: A workshop on Scientific Inquiry

  • 2 min read

ThinQ announces a three-day Workshop on Constructing Scientific Theories from 21–23 May 2026 in Coimbatore.

Most systems of school education in India are designed to help students to learn correct answers to examination questions. They also train students to provide correct answers at high speed, without thinking or reasoning: Multiple Choice Questions to be answered in two minutes or less do not allow scope for thinking or step-by-step reasoning.

Prompted by the recommendation for Higher Order Cognition in the National Education Policy 2020, this workshop goes beyond the existing models of education. It seeks to develop the capacity for critical reading, critical thinking, reasoning, and theory construction.

Who is this Workshop for?

Interested students entering Grades 8–9 are eligible to apply for the workshop. To apply, please fill out the Application Form on or before May 11th, 2026. Please note that only 30 students will be selected for the workshop. We will inform you of your selection once we review all the applications.

Venue

The Workshop will be held in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The exact venue details will be shared with the selected participants.

Workshop Fee

The fee for this 3-day workshop is INR 3000 per student, including lunch and snacks. Payment details will be shared with the selected participants.

Workshop Instructors

The workshop will be led by Prof. KP Mohanan (co-founder, ThinQ), accompanied by 2–3 members of the ThinQ team.

Learning Materials

This Workshop will draw on themes in the textbook titled Constructing a Theory of Motion.

Those who are considering registering for the Workshop, or recommending it to students, would do well to get a sense of the project by reading Pages 4–20 of the textbook in advance. We also encourage you to explore the mother–son dialogue series on Appearance and Reality (Part 1 and Part 2)
